Mojo Monday #448 - Graduation Card

More than seven years ago I met a 5th grade girl in one of my scrapbook clubs. She was helping her great-grandmother, who had Parkinson's disease, put together a couple of layouts. She was patient, kind, and efficient. She eventually became a regular attendant at our monthly scrapbook club. Ladies were always amazed that she finished her layouts so quickly without any problems.

She just graduated from high school this week, so I made a card for her with her school colors. Inside I wrote a heartfelt message that is my prayer for her. She's about to leave our rural Missouri area for college in the New York City metropolis. I pray that she will always turn her plans over to God for His direction and seek His leadership in her decision-making, His comfort in distress, His help in difficulty.

I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch with square shapes from Cricut "Paper Lace" and a graduation cap from Cricut "A Child's Year" cut at 1.5" and matted on a 2" scalloped circle.

To match the Cricut cut-out, I embossed the white panel with Cuttlebug's Concentric Circles which fits 5" x 7" cardstock.  The diploma is just thin cardstock rolled with my Quilling Tool and tied with old Sunflower waxy flax. The gold glitter paper is part of the Cricut shape cut from Paper Lace. I liked the way the sketch offset the two rectangles at an angle.  I finished the card with black sequins.

Happy Times - Three Layouts

Since this is National Scrapbooking Month I'm sharing some SIMPLE layouts I made for the weekend using the Happy Times paper pack that I got free with a $60 purchase.  It was perfect for the photos I took of my mother-in-laws 90th birthday.  I'm sharing this first one with this scrapbooking Heart 2 Heart Challenge. To coordinate with the gold foil striped paper, I cut Cricut numbers using gold glitter paper. I kept embellishments simple cutting Cricut flowers from Blush and Pomegranate cardstock and adding gold sequins. (The words "great" and "golden years" were welded and cut using the free "love moment" font I had downloaded to my computer.) I like to make these simple layouts for 4" x 6" photos and an occasional 4" x 4."

One of my scrapbooking friends made her beautiful cake, all from scratch! The flowered papers worked perfectly with the cake and table photos. I decorated the tables with silk flower garlands and pinned photos of Virginia to both garlands. I made stand-up photo holders to put on the tables. Guests were told to take a photo as a memento before they left. It became a wonderful "mixer" as people went around to different tables to look at her black and white photos over the years. Both family and church members had a chance to get to know each other. (Words "sweet" and "lovely" were cut using Cricut Quarter Note.)

The background paper on this last layout so perfectly matched her blouse and her great-grandson's shirt.

Thank you for visiting! Happy scrapping!

National Scrapbooking Month - Happy Times Blog Hop

Welcome to our National Scrapbooking Month Blog Hop!  We are featuring the Close To My Heart Happy Times paper pack and/or the Happy Times stamp set.  This is our fabulous special for National Scrapbooking Month! If you have come here from Krista Ritskes' blog you are on the right path! The blog hop is a great big circle, so you can start here and work your way all around.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

Today I'm showing you a Mother's Day card I made with some of the scraps I had left after making the 12 card workshop I posted earlier this week.  (There's still enough left to make more than another 12 cards!)

I chose a yellow diagonal striped paper backed with ombre green because I wanted the leafy cutouts to look green through the holes. I placed pomegranate glitter circles in the round holes. I love the gold embossed designs on the pink floral design and the diagonal striped strip I placed on the top of the sentiment banner. I also loved the beautiful floral print and the stamps that match those flowers. I stamped the flowers and "Happy" with Pomegranate ink twice,  first and second generation. I added gold sequins topped with Pomegranate glitter circles in the middle of the two flowers. The words "Mother's day" came from the "Flowers for Mom" stamp set. I adhered the cut-out leaves turned to the greenish side. Upside down they won't match the cut leaves, but give the top cut-out a mottled green look which I've seen on other cards and love.

If you want to try this Cricut Artfully Sent cut, you have to line your paper on the mat so that the yellow is up and the bluish green underside is at the bottom of the mat. I resized it to 8.5" x 5.5." (Check out the challenges below!)

I printed this free sentiment inside on 3.5" x 5" piece of the yellow. I kept it simple for my mother-in-law's poor vision.

A Mother's Day wish to say you are loved,
far more than words can tell.
Not just on special days like this,
but every day as well!

 Happy Mother’s Day!

Mojo #446 A Mother's Love Card

This weekend we'll be celebrating Mother's Day. My own mother passed away several years ago, but I cherish the memories that we shared, the positive influence she had on my life, and I am still scrapbooking wonderful moments with Mom. My mother-in-law, at age 91, is my other mother. She amazingly still lives at home with no illness, no arthritis or pain. She's a retired teacher and choir director and has always been amazing. In addition, I have three Mother's Day cards to make for our daughters and daughter-in-law.  I only wish I could make enough for every mother I know because they are all wonderful, loving ladies who exemplify motherhood with their caring ways!  Motherhood is a challenge, a blessing, and I think, the most important job in the world!

Here's the first one, inspired by this week's sketch at Mojo Monday and the color dare at Color My Heart: use shades of orange and Colonial White.  I used Sorbet and Poppy with Colonial White.

I started with the Sorbet "Love" card from the recently retired Charlotte paper pack and added the darker Poppy bracket shape from the new Florence papers, also one of the pocket scrapbooking cards that I cut. I added the Poppy letter stickers from the Fundamental Stickers Enchantment Pack.  The flowers were stamped with Poppy ink and fussy cut, putting a sparkle in the middle. They are from the stamp set, Flowers for Mom..The background was embossed with the Heart embossing folder. I added some Sorbet sequins and long-retired Colonial White crocheted ribbon.

I had saved a Mother's Day poem called A Mother's Love by Helen Steiner Rice. It was perfect for the inside. The small strip on the right page was cut off the "Love" panel on the front. I have plenty of room under the sentiment to write my own message of appreciation.

Thank you for visiting. I hope this gave you some inspiration for your own cards! May God bless you as you "mother" the people God has placed in your life. May He help us show gratitude to the mothers He placed in our lives and show us ways to honor them.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.  Exodus 20:12

Happy Times 12 Cards and Scrapbook Layouts

May is National Scrapbook Month so Close To My Heart made a special paper pack and stamp set just for the occasion. They're offering a free 14 double sided paper pack with every $60 purchase. There is also a coordinating stamp set for purchase and all albums are 25% off!

Here are 12 cards that I made using the workshop cutting guide that was designed by consultant Michelle Snyder for Close To My Heart.  There are a lot of photos here. After the 12 cards I'll show you 3 scrapbook layouts.

Here are cards 1, 2, and 3.

Cards 4, 5, 6, 7:

Cards 8, 9, 10:
Cards 11 and 12:

To make the cards I used the Happy Times stamp set and Make a Wish (and the May Stamp of the Month for the anniversary greeting). I also used the white gold striped ribbon, gold sequins, and pink gems. I actually picked up the wrong pack of pink gems for the first cards. I changed to the Pink Enamel Gems on the last cards which have facets instead of a smooth surface like the Flamingo Dots I used first. I stamped with Pomegranate, Smoothie, Canary, and Fern inks and used a gold marker around the edges of some panels.

Here are the 3 layouts that I'm promoting for this Scrapbook Month "Happy Times" paper pack. If you'd like to have directions for either the card workshop or the scrapbook layouts, please see my website to contact me  and I will send you the pdf cutting and assembly diagrams.

Below you can see the papers, including some with gold details, and the stamp set.
