Happy Birthday, Super Boy!

One of my grandsons is celebrating his 12th birthday today! Over the years he was enamored with superheroes and action figures. He's also an amazing artist and took a class at Nelson Atkins Gallery of Art in cartooning. His favorite subject was, of course, superheroes, with a humerous twist. So naturally, here's the card I made for him using the CTMH Super Boy stamp set and Thin Cuts.
I want him to know that we think he's amazing and so very loved!

The red striped paper from Stargazer was perfect for this theme. I stamped the lightning background behind the boy and the extra zap and pow words using the stamp set Comic Book Scenes. You can barely see it, but I used that set to stamp stars at the top of the inside to go with the birthday sentiment from PTI. The image and words were colored with Copics. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from a very old CTMH stamp set, Nursery Bash. I chose it because of the similar font style.

Thank you for visiting!

Masculine Monster Birthday

Birthdays can scare some people when they hear the larger number for their new age. I'm hoping the humor of this card will lighten that negative feeling. Some time back I had seen the sentiment: "How old? That's scary!" I thought it would be perfect for some masculine cards using my leftover Jeepers Creepers paper and a monster from an old CTMH stamp set, Party Animals, which also includes a stamp of a speech balloon outline. I typed and printed the sentiment a size to fit inside that balloon.

I used a Sizzix embossing folder, Arithmetic, to emboss the background. The monster was colored with Copic markers. The stars were from last year's Peacock Fundamentals Assortment.

Thanks for visiting!

Mojo Monday 455 Masculine Birthday Card

Creating  and taking pictures of creations is more difficult when I'm spending the summer in our motor home "babysitting" three grandsons. Yet I know this is the task God has given me for such a short time. Before I know it, they'll be grown, just like our children. At their current ages (14, 11, 10) we can talk about a lot of subjects that give me an opportunity to subtly plant seeds of scripture, wisdom, or kindness and then pray that the seeds will sprout into God's wisdom or kindness in their hearts and lives.  Spending so much time with the boys prompted me to make a masculine card for this week's Mojo Monday sketch and Color My Heart Color Dare.  I thought the colors would be great for a nautical masculine card.

I was also inspired at Alphabet Challenge to ink it up, which I did by distressing the image panel edges and swiping ink across the area to represent sea and/or sky. Since the sailboat image seemed to be blowing in the wind, I hand cut a cloud shape for the circular shape in the sketch.  The blue anchor strip is cut from a retired piece of  CTMH Regatta paper. The sapphire blue and ruby red cardstocks are from Enchantment Paper Fundamentals which is one of the many papers about to retire and be replaced by more delights for paper addicts like me. You can find the whole list under "Going Soon." I used blue Magical sequins and Bitty Sparkles to embellish. The image (from Seaside Greetings) was stamped a second time, fussy cut and pop dotted with thin 3-D foam tape.

I'm sharing this card with the following challenges:
Alphabet Challenge - I for Ink it Up
Cards Und More #162 - summer fun, beach, sea theme
Color My Heart Color Dare #200 - Ruby, Sapphire, Colonial White

June Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - The Long Way Home

Welcome to our blog hop illustrating the June Stamp of the Month, The Long Way Home. If you've come here from Tammy Lubick's blog, you're on the right track. If you get lost, you can find the entire list of bloggers on Melinda's blog hop list.

When we take our grandkids on road trips, I give them each a notebook and pens for writing notes, drawing, playing games, etc.  Here's my latest altered composition book for one of them. This month's stamp of the month was perfect for a road trip theme.

The small images inspired me to stamp them on a banner. All of the papers are from the Urban paper pack. I used Archival Black ink and Enchantment pigment inks (Peacock, Saffron, Sapphire) and Saddle from the Basic pigment inks because I was using Matte Mod Podge that seemed a little watery to adhere and coat all of the pieces for durability. I stamped the word "NOTES" using the small alphabet, Etched. The banner, black arrow, and "adventure" were cut using Cricut Artbooking. I stamped the vehicles on back and kept it simple:

Now you're ready to move on to Michele Rowley's creative artwork! Enjoy the journey!
