A Little Bit of Sunshine . . . Pumpkin Vase

I've been honored to be on the design team of CDS. At first I was a customer because they had so many Scripture digis and other faith-related sentiments. They were initially named Clear Dollar Stamps. Earlier this year the name was changed to Clearly Digi Stamps. You may have seen the announcement that they will be closing on the last day of this month.

In honor of their closing, I thought I'd highlight some of their digis and give you a chance to consider getting some of their digis for the last time.

From now until the 30th of September all digis and SVG files will be 25% off!  Enjoy!
Enter this code at checkout:  SEPT30CLOSING

Clearly Digi Stamps will be closing September 30th

Here's a card I made using one of the fall images by Austie Bost in a set called Decorative Flowers.
There is also a separate set of images that are all outline drawings for you to color here. I chose this because of the fall pumpkin holding the flowers.

I chose this verse for the inside on the left:

Here's a jpg file of the verse I typed in case you'd like to use it some time.

Here is the lovely photo from Basic Grey Challenges that I used for choosing fall colors:

I used this sketch from Papertake Weekly:

All of my designer papers are from Basic Grey (Origins and Nook & Pantry). The front sentiment is from a zip strip at the top of a retired CTMH Pemberly paper. I used Photoshop to lighten some of the colors on the colored image so that I could add colors with Copics: R01, R02, R21, R81; RV23; E00; Y13; G24, G85, N0, and the 0 blender.

Thank you for visiting. May you grow in God's grace and share your sunshine with the world around you!

I'm sharing this card with the following challenges:
Basic Grey Challenges - Autumn Colors
Crafty Little Fairies - Autumn Colors
Die Cuttin' Divas #134 - Fall Colors
Going Grey with Scrap-Creations - Fall
Papertake Weekly - sketch #83

Miss You Like Crazy - Viva La Verve card

I was remembering our men and women who serve our country and all the sacrifices they make when I made a card for the Viva La Verve challenge for May, week 4. This will be one of the cards I give to Operation Write Home. They send the cards overseas and our service men and women can select cards free of charge to write home. I thought the Verve sentiment "Miss You Like Crazy" was a great one for expressing their feelings of love (and maybe loneliness). This week Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps Midweek Challenge is to make cards that express love. I'm thankful for the opportunity to make cards for them and to keep them in my prayers as well.

Here is the sketch from Verve:

iSpy Sketches #16 - You're One in a Million

Two people who are dear to me just ended relationships and I've been praying for them not to hurt so much and to know how valuable they are. The sentiment I chose for my card has double meaning. They are truly each "One in a million," but I also hope they'll meet that special "One in a Million Guy" that God has for them. Love to Create Challenge #16 is to make your card inspired by a song. So I'm using Hannah Montana's song titled "One in a Million." Here are the last lyrics:

They say that good things take time
But really great things happen
In the blink of an eye

Thought the chances to meet somebody
Like you were a million to one
I cannot believe it, you're one in a million, yeah

One in a million, yeah
You're one in a million.

(That's exactly how I have felt about my hubby ever since I met him! I hope the same for my friends!)

Here's a sketch from iSpy Sketches that I used.

I love this Basic Grey "Hello Luscious" paper. I love the bright, tropical flower colors. For the aqua semicircle shape, I simply traced half of a spool of ribbon. I made an accordian flower for my center circle accent by scoring a 1 x 11 piece of cardstock every 1/4." After I folded it accordian style, I overlapped one inch of it using glue. Then I attached it to the magenta heart circle with a Gluber, adding a flower sparkle for the center.

I'm adding this to the following challenges:
Basic Grey Challenge #68 - Anything Goes using Basic Grey
iSpy Sketches #16
Love to Create Challenge #16 - Song Inspired
Paper Playtime Challenge #75 - Say It With Sentiments - Friendship Card
Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge #80 - Anything Goes

5" x 6.5" Friendship Card Recipe:
Paper - Basic Grey "Hello Luscious;" Close To My Heart Sunkiss Yellow, Sweet Leaf, White Daisy cardstock
Stamp - My Favorite Things
Ink - CTMH Lagoon
Accents - CTMH retired flower sparkle; Sizzix embossing folder "Tropical Flourishes;" Spellbinders Nestabilities Heart Circles

Philippians 4:8 for MOJO Monday 242

When I was in my thirties and early forties, life had many challenges that often discouraged me. One of the verses I quoted to myself frequently was Philippians 4:8. I also reminded my children of this verse and it's importance to their mental well-being from their teenage years to the present. I find that there are many beautiful, positive things in life that we can put our focus on when times are difficult. Dwelling on the problems is exhausting as well as discouraging. When I saw this verse in the newly-released May digi image collection called Value Verses from Clear Dollar Stamps, I wanted to use it for my cards of encouragement. The fonts and arrangement of the phrases make it attractive and memorable. I like the way the key words are on the right margin. It also perfectly fit the sketch from MOJO Monday #242 this week.

I had fun making the flower by using a Verve stamp and winding seam binding around the middle. You just add some very sticky glue dots to the center of any flower, start the twisted seam binding in the center and twist and adhere as you go around the circle. Love it! The leaves were slightly creased in the middle, then folded up for more dimension.

May God bless you today as you focus your thoughts on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, of virtue, and praiseworthy.

Challenges:
Basic Grey Challenge #68 - Anything Goes, using Basic Grey
Just Keep On Creating - Anything Goes (use up your stash - the ancient yellow patterned paper!)
Little Birdie Blessings Linky Party - anything using scripture
MOJO Monday - Sketch #242
Ribbon Carousel Challenge #54 - Fancy Flowers - make flowers out of ribbon, fabric, felt or burlap
Scrap-Creations- Bingo (I used the middle row going down)

Hope Blooms

When I was a teenager, I spent three years working as a Candy Striper at Baptist Memorial Hospital. My first two years, one of my jobs was to deliver flowers to patients. People were always so pleased to receive a vase of flowers. It was obvious that flowers were given to cheer up those who were recuperating. There's something bright and happy about looking at flowers.

My husband and I spent Mother's Day with a group of family at a Botanical Garden. The flowers and trees were amazing and inspired this shaped card along with these lovely challenges: The Shabby Tea Room Week #114 inspiration photo and request to make Shaped Cards. Dutch Dare Card Challenge #165 is also for shaped cards. I used the Shopping Our Stash Weekly Challenge #52 Bingo, the column under "G" - patterned paper, blue, sentiment, ribbon, and tag. (They are celebrating their birthday so you can enter as many times as you like!)

This is a really fun shape to make. I traced a template making sure that the front of the card is higher, revealing the inside of the card where a strip of patterned paper will show. The top was embossed after using a brayer with ink on the raised leaf portion, so that the colored debossed side shows on the front. My intent was to decorate the leaves as if they were a bouquet of flowers tied with a ribbon and tag like the ones I used to deliver.

I'm hoping that this card with it's flowers and verse will bring loving cheer to someone who needs to encouragment that God is with them in their time of need and will help them.

Jeremiah 29:11 Card with Spring Coloured Stripes

Not too long after I met my friend, Kathy, she introduced me to this verse. She quoted it to me while we were discussing a prayer request for one of my kids. I'm sure I'd heard it before but I'd never memorized it. It soon became one of my favorites. It was the first stamp I ordered from Verve when I was looking for scripture stamps of encouragement. Here is the Viva La Verve April sketch for Week 4 using that stamp with bright, spring colors. I thought stripes in spring colors would be great for the chevron design.

This week at Stampin' Sisters in Christ, Challenge #136 has a devotional about God's Word being a light unto our path. The challenge is to use light pastel colors. I thought the design of the Verve challeng was perfect because the chevron/arrow shape looks like it's pointing the way to go and the verse I chose talks about God having the best plans for us. The challenge also said we could use black and white which I did for contrast and to make the verse "pop," which is also the challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges - use black to make it pop!

Challenges:
Viva La Verve April 2012 - Week 4
Stampin' Sisters in Christ - Challenge #136 Use soft pastels
Crazy 4 Challenges - add black to make it pop

Peaceful and Holy Easter Vintage Card

Colour Create Challenge #93 has this lovely photo inspiration to go with their challenge to use deep purple, bright green, and cream. This color comgination is one I've loved since I was six years old. Freshly Made Sketch Challenge #29 was perfect for adding a touch of color on the side and plenty of white space so that the image is the focus. Because the papers are from Basic Grey, I'm also entering this card in the Basic Grey Challenge #65 to make Easter cards.

The colors led me to use a vintage Easter card image that was surrounded by purple violets with their green leaves.  The angels are making music and in the background is a church.  All of those details together speak to my heart of the joys of Easter celebrating the gift of Christ's death and resurrection.

I used the bottom square on the right to place two violets. They had a little too much red in their color so I sponged some Pansy Purple ink on each petal so that they'd match the Pansy Purple cardstock I used to mat the image. They're darker in the photo than in real life. Here's a photo of that detail taken with flash.

The organdy is also Pansy Purple with a small charm that says "Love." The embossing folder that I used is rather architectural in design with goes with the church theme of the image.

May God bless your heart as you celebrate Easter tomorrow.

5" x 6.5" Easter Card Recipe:
Paper - Basic Grey "Indie Bloom;" CTMH Colonial White, Topiary, Pansy Purple cardstock
Ink - Close To My Heart Pansy Purple

Vintage Easter Wishes

This week the Basic Grey Challenge #65 was to make Easter cards using Basic Grey papers. I had this really cute vintage Easter card image that I thought would be perfect with the sketch from Unscripted Sketches Challenge #152.

I rotated the sketch 90 degrees counter-clockwise since my picture was vertically oriented. I used Basic Grey's "Sweet Threads for all of the papers. I wanted to use the large dots because they were reminiscent of colored eggs. I added a doily for the circle and a pink bow at the bottom of the pink strip. Now I only need a few more Easter cards by tomorrow night!

Freshly Made Sketch with Butterflies and Basic Grey

Ever since I read on the blog "Send A Smile 4 Kids" about the need for cards for a children's hospital in Iowa, I've started making more for kids. There current challenge is to use things with wings for kids. I saw that they need Mother's Day cards by April 30 for the kids to give to their moms. So this Basic Grey challenge #65 to make Mother's Day cards using Basic Grey was perfect. This sketch from Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #28  is also perfect for so many possibilities. I'm sure I'll use it multiple times. I love making Mother's Day cards even though my mom is home with Jesus now, so I enjoy finding others I can give one to and I remember good things about my own mom while I make it. I hope some of you can send cards in this way, too. May God richly bless you!

4.25" x 5.5" Card Recipe:
Paper - Basic Grey: Indie Bloom; CTMH Blush, Hollyhock, White Daisy cardstock, scrap of black cs?
Stamps - CTMH all retired - Dream Big, A Little of Everything (sentiments), Butterflies and Celebrate Life (two different Monarch butterflies)

Sweet Sketch for Believe in Your Dreams

When I taught classes at a local scrapbook store I fell in love with Basic Grey and became a Basic Grey collector- loving the paper too much to use, saving it for something special. I decided this year that something special is now. Instead of waiting for the right photos, I'd make lots of cards with those papers I love.. I haven't even made a dent in the pile. But now that my youngest grandchild is four, it's time to use the Oh, Baby papers, all four packs!

Basic GreyChallenge 63 is called "Wish Upon a Star." I used the Oh, Baby and the Color Me Silly papers with the Sweet Sketch Wednesday Challenge 143.

One technique that I used in stamping the sentiment was to turn over the stamp that says Believe in Your so that I could stamp the solid side as a background. Since the stamp is curved to go over the word Dreams, it's a good way to get the shape you need as well as providing background color.  The rocket was cut out of one of the papers and pop dotted. The corrugated stars were painted with a mixture of copper lumiere and white craft paint so that they weren't too white.

I think even my nine-year-old grandson wouldn't mind getting this card from the "baby" paper.

5.5" square card recipe:
Paper - Basic Grey "Oh, Baby Boy," "Color Me Silly;" CTMH White and Colonial White cardstock
Stamp - Believe in Your Dreams
Ink - CTMH Dutch Blue, Sunflower, Black
Other - CTMH Milepost Shapes (stars), gold ribbon; Cuttlebug "Swiss Dots" embossing folder

Sweet Sunday Sketch #150 Valentine

I loved the color combination at ColourQ Challenge #121, but I didn't know how much until I combined the Basic Grey "June Bug" papers with a new stamp I got from Close To My Heart.

Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #150 provided the perfect design for these papers.

Except for the Kraft CS, which photographed rather dark, all of the papers were scraps, including the red embossed heart in the beak of the bird. It was part of a Christmas ornament that was embossed, but didn't turn out. I am definitely a scrapaholic, keeping all sorts in files, tubs, and on my scrap table. I need a 12 step program to make more cards!  Once again my Kraft circle and both parts of my flower are pop dotted for extra dimension as my favorite thing to use on cards or scrapbook pages for the Basic Grey Challenge #61. One of the easiest things to do on this card was to cut the white flower on my cricut, then stamp. The stamp set told me what size to make the flower. Love it!

5.5" x 4.25" card:
Paper - Basic Grey "June Bug," Close To My Heart Kraft and White Daisy CS
Stamp - CTMH "Life is Tweet" (not yet available)
Ink - CTMH Goldrush, Cranberry
Other - 2.5" circle punch; CTMH red embossing powder, White Daisy grosgrain ribbon, Art Philosophy Cartridge (flower)

An Archaic Dinosaur for the Boys

When I talked with my oldest grandson about coming down to help them make Valentines, he didn't want anything "pretty." He wanted monsters or dinosaurs. Such is the mind of a third grade boy. So here's one of the samples I made for him to consider. I used the theme from Here Come the Boys this week - dinosaurs.

I made a simple pattern using Basic Grey's "Archaic" papers and Bazzil (brown) and CTMH (white) CS.  I used chipboard dots that had been punched out of letters for embellishments. The white square shape is from CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge cut at 2.5." The ink is CTMH Garden Green, Juniper, and Cocoa and the CTMH stamp sets are "Dino-Mite" and the new "Keepsake Alphabet." (You're special" goes with the letter "y.") I'm letting Basic Grey Challenge #51 know that my favorite thing to use on layouts is pop dots. I love to add dimension! I tell the ladies in my scrapbook club that when I die, they're going to put on my headstone "Popdot Queen." I wanted to add ferns on the left side and maybe more, but I resisted, keeping it simple for reproduction by a first or third grade boy. (Although Grandma may have to cut out the dinos or have them simply stamped on the white.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown - Week 1

Starting in January to make Christmas cards should help me have enough this year if I keep at it! This is the first week of the Christmas Card Throwdown challenge, making it a sketch week. I used this sketch from their blog to make my card. I hope I can meet their challenge every week.

I used the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge to cut the ornament and snowflake. I dotted glitter gel on the middle of the small snowflakes on the background paper and on the ends of the large snowflake. In real life, the rhinestone brad in the middle adds extra sparkle but looks dark in this photo. I love these new brads I bought this year. I'm entering this card with "something new" in the Basic Grey Challenge since the pink and maroon papers are from Basic Grey. Because the theme of my card is "Tis the Season to Sparkle" I'm including it in Really Reasonable Ribbon's Challenge #39, "Sparkle and Ribbon."

6.5" x 5" Card:
Paper - Basic Grey, Close To My Heart "Wonderland", White Daisy, and Twilight CS
Stamp - Close To My Heart special edition
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories - Cricut Art Philosophy, CTMH Glitz Glitter Gel Stardust, Bow Easy, ribbon unknown

Z for Zany Colored Christmas Gifts

Thanks to Basic Grey's Lemonade paper sitting in front of me, I could readily see the possibilities of "Z for Zany Christmas Colors" for another Christmas card. This was the end of the alphabet challenges from ABC Christmas Card Challenge. I hope to make one for each letter this coming year. I used the theme of "presents" suggested by Jingle Belles. I wanted to glam up the gifts a little, so I drew around the ribbons, dots, and stripes with a Sakura glitter gel pen. It seemed that the verse from The Grinch was appropriate for a gift theme. It reads: What if Christmas doesn't come from a store. --What if Christmas means a little bit more (inside the card). I stamped an arrow, cut it out slightly larger and flipped it over to stamp the sentiment. I also outlined it with the glitter gel pen and added sparkles. The silver ribbon and the silver edged organdy were both from my stash, origin unknown. I used ribbon that sparkled to go along with the blue sparkles and glitter gel pen accents, so I'm entering this card in Really Reasonable Ribbon's challenge this week. It's also in the Basic Grey Challenge #59.

I used this Sketch #139 from Unscripted Sketches. This sketch has so many possibilities for future cards!

Materials:
Paper - Basic Grey "Lemonade"
Stamps - CTMH "Peace on Earth"(sentiment), "Confetti and Favors" (stack of gifts)
Ink - CTMH Tulip, Vineyard Berry, Twilight

Happy Birthday, Sydney! MOJO222 Card

Today is our oldest granddaughter's 7th birthday. She loves pink and purple, so her card was made with the bright color scheme and theme suggested by Our Creative Corner: a celebration card made with bright pink, bright green, bright yellow, and bright purple.  These are bright colors like her personality!

I used the MOJO Monday #222 sketch for the design of this card.

For the Basic Grey Challenge I used papers from Green At Heart (purple and pink) and Nook and Pantry (green). The yellow is Basic Grey, but it was in my scraps so I don't remember. I stamped it with a yellow startburst, but the yellow wasn't showing up, so I outlined one side of each ray with a Sakura gel glitter pen. The white flocked wired ribbon is backed with CTMH white cardstock to show up more. The center of the flower has one of the pink starbursts punched and glued on with a pink rolled ribbon rosette for more dimension. The black cardstock was cut from Cricut Art Philosophy and the sentiment/image rectangle was pop-dotted. All of the stamps and ink were Close To My Heart, but the images were colored with CTMH markers and Prismacolor pencils.

A friend who knows the song in your heart

Today's inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room Challenge #95 has trees, birds, owls, butterflies, quilts, all things that I love. They call it "Time Flies."

At first I thought I'd use one of my clock stamps somewhere. Then I looked at my cute owl and branch stamps, but something else began to take shape when I saw my bird stamp with one of my favorite sentiments. I thought about how it takes a long time to grow a really good friend like the ones I have. I know that when things are tough, like when I lost my mom, my friends knew just the right things to say and do to get me through the sadness. So I made this card in honor of them. I hope I can sing their heart songs back to them when they need it.

I used this great sketch from Papertake Weekly Challenge #63.

I used Basic Grey's "Sweet Threads" papers that looked like quilt patterns and a yellow gingham scrap I had out. They photographed a little darker and brighter but the colors are like the ones in the inspiration photo.   I replaced their scallops with pink lattice ribbon that reminded me of a lattice supporting blue morning glories I once had in my butterfly garden. I inked the bird with CTMH Twilight ink and used tissue dabbed in Chocolate ink on the wings and tail, one of my favorite, simple techniques.

Happy New Year with The Shabby Tea Room!

Last night I celebrated New Year's Eve with my hubby and today I celebrate the New Year with my scrapbooking friends! I made this card with my friend Karen in mind, hoping God will bless her and her husband in this coming new year. She likes frilly, lacy, and especially PINK anything. So this inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room Week #94 challenge was perfect! I'm using their color suggestions of pink, blue, green, and yellow.

I liked the spotted paper from Basic Grey's "Out of Print" because it reminded me of balloons, confetti, etc., so I'm entering this card in Basic Grey Challenge #59. I used this great sketch from My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club Getting SketchySketch #52.

I colored the balloons with CTMH Watercolor Pencils and Blender Pen. The black line outlining the balloons seemed too dark for this card, so I outlined them with a Sakura Gelly Roll glitter pen. I love that shine. It's much more festive!

May God bless you and yours in this coming year!

Watercolored Daisy Sympathy

On my third sympathy card today I used a 6" x 6" Kraft Die-Cut card from CTMH that has an extra flap that is scalloped. I chose to put that flap at the bottom of the card. I made my own design using Basic Grey "Origins" papers and cardstock. I watercolored the daisy after stamping it with Memento Black Tuxedo ink. I picked up ink from the lids of three colors on the wet brush, making the centers a little darker with Sunny Yellow and a streak of Creme Brulee in a line down the inner center of each petal. The Sunkiss Yellow that I painted near the tips of the petals hardly showed at all. This technique was for the Watercolor portion of the Friday Mashup Challenge #38 (not the sketch). I'm also entering this card in today's Simon Says Stamp Challenge and the Really Reasonable Ribbon's Challenge #38. I know my daughter-in-law will love the wide yellow gingham ribbon. This card is also enterred in the Basic Grey Challenge 59.

This second image shows the flap down.

Materials:
Paper - Basic Grey "Origins, CTMH Kraft, Black Cardstock, Bazzil CS (dark brown)
Stamps - CTMH "Card Chatter-Sympathy", retired daisy
Ink - Memento Black, CTMH Sunny Yellow, Creme Brulee, Sunkiss Yellow
Accessories - 3" circle punch

Loving Memories

My best friend's mother-in-law just died unexpectedly. My daughter-in-law's dad died of a heart attack yesterday before paramedics could get there. It's a festive time of year for most people, which makes sudden tragedy so much more difficult. I suddenly need five sympathy cards. It seems like a contradiction to use the sketch from Cute Card Thursday to make such a card. "Cute" and "Sympathy" don't go together, but the design was right, so here it is.

To me there's something comforting about the papers from Basic Grey's Nook and Pantry. It reminds me of "things from my grandma." So these papers were my choice for a comforting card and I'm entering them in the Basic Grey Challenge #59.

Materials:
Paper - Basic Grey (Nook and Pantry, Indian Summer); CTMH Colonial White and Vineyard Berry CS
Stamps - CTMH (Comforting Thoughts, Dream Wishes-both retired)
Ink - CTMH Vineyard Berry, Staz-on Brown
Accessories - CTMH flowers (pink), pearls, Unknown larger flower and ribbon
