Glory Art - Trust

GLORY and TRUST DETAILS:
Patter at Triple the Scraps started a new year-long challenge titled Glory Art. She shares a thorough Bible study of one quality twice a month, like "TRUST," along with her lovely artistic creations. I won't reproduce her study because you can find it here.  She also has a link to her Glory Art facebook page where so many artists are sharing a wide variety of projects to glorify God in their art.  I'll post my cover at the top of my posts.

I thought trust was a great concept to begin with. It includes the earliest beginnings of our relationship with God and the daily process we go through as we follow His Word and His leading.

I searched through the lovely Word Art Wednesday scriptures about TRUST for some to share. I chose Psalm 91:1-2 for my first page:

"He who dwells in the shelter of the MOST HIGH will abide in the shadow of the ALMIGHTY. I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, MY GOD in whom I trust!"

I shared two more Word Art Wednesday verses on the tag that came on the album.

When I was contemplating what to make, God kept bringing the hymn "Trusting Jesus" to my mind. He always seems to "play hymns inside my head" when I first wake up in the morning.  I've learned to listen and ask what is it will I need for this day from these precious verses? I'm thankful for His gentle reminders. I know He will lead me in the right direction for the day and only hope and pray I won't ignore His leading! The other two hymns I added to the little book are "Only Trust Him" and "Trust and Obey."

I also handwrote three more scriptures on trust wherever there was extra room. I wanted them to remind me I can take His hand in times of trouble and He'll lead me through. Also, I want to trust Him to help me be a blessing to someone that needs it each day.

Psalm 37:3a: " Trust in the Lord and do good..."
Psalm 62:8:  "Trust in Him at all times, ye people, pour out your heart before Him."
Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

ART DETAILS:
I decided to join this challenge using a mini-album that I had begun in a K&Co class a few years ago. This album had over 60 pages and we covered about 14 of them with their subtle background paper and a handful of embellishments in class. I'm adding a lot of stamping on the background and my own scrapbooking embellishments. I used four CTMH background stamps with different inks to build the background. I did a lot of sponging on anything white.

The background of the cover is "old."  It originally had background paper, white canvas and a white chipboard palette that we added in the class a few years ago. This week I stamped the palette with paint blots and embossed the title in shiny black. I cut the word "glory" using Cricut Inspired Hearts out of gold cardstock. I added more glitz with new supplies to signify glory using gold sequins,  sparkles, gold dotted washii tape, and black glitter tape.

In the class we painted a metal  pocket to hold a booklet. I wrote the words of the three hymns  I mentioned that God brought to my mind on the pages of the little book. I also handwrote three more scriptures on trust wherever there was extra room.

The album stands upright for display.  Here's the side view and both sides of the tag that came with it. I added a Word Art Wednesday scripture to each side with mat mod podge.

I'm sharing this with the following challenges:

Scripture Lessons and Lyrics Challenge #1

I'm fighting a respiratory and stomach virus, so decided I wouldn't make any cards until I'm better so I won't spread germs to recipients. I've been working on my own personal scrapbooks instead. I have two posts for today.

Patter Cross at http://triplethescraps.blogspot.com/ started a new challenge for this year. I always enjoyed her hymn and scripture challenges, even though I have many more that I'm deternined to make for my own journal. I decided to start this year's challenge while I'm still working on the last. I have a NEW designer notebook from Close To My Heart called My Crush - Bluebird Book. It comes with an assortment of journal spots, stickers, and small envelopes- perfect for my journaling or additional verses. Each page is a different colored, decorated differently with words or drawings. I really liked it but wasn't sure what my retired-life-at-home would have to save or journal about. When I saw that Patter's new challenge was using a newer, non-hymn song for the lyrics, I knew the recent song would fit well with the contemporary design. This book does not have page protectors, so I'll probably have to be careful what I attach to the pages.

I googled and found the lyrics to Jeremy Camp's "You Are the Lord" and printed them to put on one of the larger journaling cards. I sized it to fit three sections and made the journaling card one that flips up.

I also printed the verse phrases and Scriptures that Patter included so I could keep referring to them in the future. I reduced the print size to 10 points. These fit nicely in the pocket. I put the verse that I wanted to emphasize on the front of the pocket to go with the first part of the lyrics on the front:

"If God is for us, who can be against us?"

I'm so glad that Patter introduced this song so I could learn the beauty and depth of it's lyrics. You can listen to it here. I'll be returning to this study multiple times for strength and encouragement. I hope you'll check out Patter's study for the rich commentary that accompanies the selected Scriptures.

Anything But a Card has a challenge right now on balance:

This intrigued me because focusing on both Scripture and hymns or songs truly give me balance. I said more about this on my first post for today.  Here's the portion of the suggested definition that I chose:

"stability of mind or feelings - the way to some kind of peace or personal balance"

So I am sharing this project on their challenge and the following:
A Gem of a Challenge #110 - something new (new challenge, new notebook, new journal cards)
Anything But a Card #31 - Balance
Make It Monday - always anything goes
Order of the Opus Gluei #174 - need a lift (this study is very uplifting for me and others)
Triple the Scraps challenge #1
Word Art Wednesday #114 - anything goes with scripture, encouraging, or uplifting verse

Scripture and Hymn Challenge - I Need Thee Every Hour

Thirty-four years ago, just before the birth of my second child, my son, I told my pastor's wife that I was beginning to get nervous because my first birth experience was very long- 30 hours - and there was a long recovery after a high forceps delivery. After my son's birth I was supposed to start teaching her son in our Christian school. I couldn't afford to have problems, but my son was in the breach position at every doctor's visit. In addition, I've always been allergic to benzocaine or lidocaine that they give for pain, so I really had to have a natural birth.

My pastor's wife told me to focus on singing Scripture songs. She said that the verses would keep my spirit calm and the songs minister to our souls - mind, will, and emotions - where fear would reside. She was absolutely right. We had a 30 mile drive to the hospital. I sang my collection of Scripture songs silently during my entire two hours of labor, along with Lamaze breathing. No one thought I was having a baby. It was a short beautiful labor and delivery, happily memorable.  The doctor never made it in time and I never had to push. I could hardly believe I was holding a beautiful eight pound boy.  Now Scriptures and hymns are what I always love to turn to before surgeries or hospital procedures.

Today I have the flu, stomach and respiratory. I've been focusing on this hymn all day, acknowledging my need for God's help, healing, calming, and wisdom. You can check out the beautiful Bible verses and commentary by Patter Cross in her challenge for this hymn.  You can also see her list of links to all of the 2013 Hymn challenges here.

I found myself starting to feel really grouchy last week when I started getting sick. The verse I chose to highlight goes perfectly with the 2nd verse of the song: "Temptations lose their pow'r when thou art nigh." The stamped verse is from Our Daily Bread Designs:

"Great Peace have they who love your law and nothing can make them stumble."

The lyric and the Scripture sound great to me when I'm praying not to be a grouch!

The orange and red tag were added so I could include my journaling about how this song relates to my life. My hope is that it will be an encouragement for me and my children when it's read.

(All of the pieces used on this project were scraps from my scrap box. The hymn itself was torn from an old 1950's falling apart hymnal that I had purchased for 50 cents at a 2nd hand store. My color choices came from the predominant colors that I've been using in the 9" x 9" album that I'm using for my hymn and scripture pages. I love the way CTMH papers, ribbons, inks, etc. can all match, like the juniper ribbon and ink I sponged on the chipboard flourish and sentiment and the flower center and brad. Both of the clock stamps are old, retired stamps from CTMH.)

I'm sharing this link with the following challenges:

Twist of Faith #58 - Inspired by a Song

This week our challenge at Twist of Faith is:
Inspired by a Song

AND a scripture, or uplifting verse/quote or positive words of healing, encouragement, or support

This week Pauline shared a scripture with you about songs/music...

"And David and all Israel played before God with all their might and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
                              ~ 1 Chronicles 13:8~
Our randomly drawn winner will receive their choice of five (5) digital images from  Eureka Stamps ...

Music has been a big part of my life as long as I can remember, listening, playing the flute, and singing. My flute days are long gone, but I can still sing. In fact, I wake up every morning with a hymn playing in my head. I've wondered if I should keep a journal of the hymns in my head because there are so many and I sometimes think God's Spirit leads my spirit with specific ones sometimes. This fall image and the hymn "This Is My Father's World" seemed to jump out at me simultaneously to be joined in this challenge. Patter at Triple the Scraps blog has a wonderful study and layout on this hymn that you might want to check out. I identify with the way Maltbie Babcock felt about being inspired in the Great Outdoors. The beauty of the natural world always lifts my soul to appreciate and worship the Creator.

I love autumn's beauty! This photo was taken by my hubby when he was in the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado last week . The aspens had just started to turn colors, right after it snowed. My card uses the Eureka digi34502 Tree Losing Leaves.

This was a perfect image to color with autumn colors. I used some long-retired CTMH autumn paper and Goldrush cardstock that was embossed with a Cuttlebug Japanese Scales embossing folder. I colored the many leaf shapes with Copics, trying to always keep colors different with adjacent leaves. Copics included: Y17, YR04, YR61, YR68; E27, E35, E43.  I made a horizontal windswept background, using E30 Bisque. A few bitty Mocha pearls were added to the wind-blown leaves.

I typed the portion of the hymn, "This is My Father's World," that  I used on the front of my card.

May you be blessed during the changing seasons and be filled with the awareness of how awesome is our God!
